THEA Highlights Downtown Investments at Tampa’s State of Downtown Event

The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) was proud to participate in the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s 2025 State of Downtown event—an annual gathering of business, civic, and community leaders committed to shaping a thriving urban core.

Greg Slater, THEA’s CEO and Executive Director, joined a strong lineup of speakers to share our agency’s vision for a more connected, walkable, and accessible downtown. Our presentation focused on THEA’s current and future investments in infrastructure that enhance safety, support economic development, and improve quality of life for all who live, work, and visit Tampa.

From enhancing the Selmon Greenway and advancing pedestrian connectivity, to integrating smart mobility technologies, THEA is focused on building systems that meet the needs of a growing downtown while maintaining its character and livability.

Key initiatives include the South Selmon Capacity Project, the Whiting Street Extension, the Meridian Refresh, the Selmon Greenway Master Plan, the deployment of pedestrian safety systems, and a network of wrong-way detection systems.

We are grateful to the Tampa Downtown Partnership for creating space for these important conversations and for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow leaders driving Tampa forward. Stay connected with us on social media for updates into these initiatives!
