Deputy John Kotfila, Jr. Memorial Dog Park

We are Building the Deputy John Kotfila, Jr. Memorial Dog Park

Playful barks, wagging tales, and happy feet – from two-and four-legged friends will soon be heard and seen at the Deputy Kotfila Memorial Dog Park.

Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority is excited to announce that dog park construction has begun under the Selmon Expressway behind the Bell Channelside Apartments. The dog park will have separate play areas for small and large dogs. Both areas will have top of the line canine grass, providing more durability and lower maintenance – and will all be under the shade of the Expressway!

Our new dog park will have plenty of room for dogs of all sizes to play. We are using an innovative artificial grass especially designed to pets called, K9Grass. Unlike other generic artificial grass, K9Grass is softer and won’t cut or damage the paws of smaller dog breeds. Other innovative elements include water fountains with built-in pet bowls, large bench-style seating throughout the park, and bench swings attached to the underside of the overpass.

We are proud to build this dog park to for our community in honor of Hillsborough County Deputy John Robert Kotfila, Jr. who lost his life to a wrong-way driver on the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway in March of last year.

The park is scheduled to be completed in June and we will notify you of the date and time of the official grand opening. We hope you and your dogs will join us to celebrate the addition of this latest amenity along the Selmon Greenway.

Every attempt will be made to minimize any inconvenience during the few weeks of construction.
