THEA Rangers in the “Safety Spotlight”

At the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA), safety isn’t just a priority – it’s a promise. And at the heart of that promise are our unsung heroes of the road: THEA’s Road Rangers.

Whether it’s a flat tire in the middle of rush hour, a stalled vehicle during a rainstorm, or debris creating a traffic hazard, THEA Road Rangers are the first to respond, providing free, quick-response assistance to motorists along the Selmon Expressway. Operating with GPS-enabled patrol vehicles and specialized equipment, these trained professionals keep traffic flowing, prevent secondary accidents, and help drivers safely get back on their way.

Road Rangers are on duty every weekday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., working in partnership with THEA’s Traffic Management Center to monitor road conditions. They act swiftly to clear incidents, assist distressed drivers, and support emergency responders as needed.

By patrolling the roadway for hazards, monitoring lighting outages, and staying alert to changing traffic patterns, THEA Road Rangers are a critical part of our proactive safety strategy.

We’re proud to shine the “Safety Spotlight” on our Road Rangers. Their dedication reflects THEA’s mission to create safer, more connected roadways and to serve our community through every mile.

Thank you, Road Rangers, for keeping Tampa moving safely.
