Florida Bike Month

THEA is proud to play a part in Florida Bike Month this March! As a city that encourages walking, bike riding, and outdoor activities our 1.7-mile Selmon Greenway is a great way to appreciate the beautiful city of Tampa while partaking in the benefits of outdoor exercise.

Florida Bike Month was created from National Bike Month and falls two months before. Created by the Bicycle Institute of America, the goal is to promote the use of bicycles as a healthy and environmentally friendly form of transportation. In Florida, the League of American Bicyclists organizes bike rides, bike tours, and bike safety workshops to help promote the incredible benefits to every community.

Running east-west through downtown Tampa, well-shaded by the expressway, and connecting the City’s Riverwalk and our own Meridian Avenue Trail, the Selmon Greenway is the perfect spot to begin your biking journey! The Greenway is open for anyone looking to enjoy fresh air, healthy exercise, and the many amenities downtown Tampa has to offer.

Cycling provides a multitude of physical, mental, and environmental benefits. It is proven to increase cardiovascular fitness, increase muscle strength and flexibility, and improve joint mobility. Getting outside and enjoying our city’s amazing views also has mental health advantages, such as stress reduction, mood enhancement through the release of endorphins, and improved sleep patterns.

On an environmental level, cycling stands out as one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transportation. Choosing to bike over other forms of transportation produces zero emissions, reducing individual carbon footprints. With fewer cars on the road, urban communities, such as Tampa, can experience reduced traffic congestion and air pollution. As THEA celebrates Florida Bike Month, our commitment to a sustainable city lifestyle shines through the Selmon Greenway!
